Formed in the halls of a South African secondary school, Skullgang is a rising force in the country’s vibrant music scene. Comprising a group of talented individuals who share a passion for hip hop and trap, the band combines catchy beats with thought-provoking lyrics to create a unique sound that captivates audiences and leaves a lasting impression.

Skullgang’s story began when the members, Mows, Teddy Ghost, JAGYK and Gathas, met during their high school years. Their shared love for music quickly bonded them, and they often found themselves drumming on their desks or tables, creating impromptu beats. As their passion grew, they began freestyling and rapping over these beats, discovering their undeniable chemistry as they effortlessly bounced off each other’s energy.

“We met at school and we were playing drums on the school table and started rapping to the sound of the drums”
said JAGYK.

Skullgang’s band structure is built on a democratic foundation. Each member brings their unique skills and strengths to the table, with Mows and TEDDY Ghost serving as the main rappers and lyricists, Gathas as the producer and beatmaker, and JAGYK as the vocalist. This division of roles allows for a cohesive and well-rounded approach to their music.

Skullgang’s music is an exhilarating fusion of hip hop and trap, infused with elements of African rhythms and melodies. Their lyrics explore a range of topics, from personal experiences to social issues, all delivered with a raw and authentic voice. This unique blend of genres sets them apart, allowing them to connect with a diverse audience. Inspired by the powerful symbolism of the human skeleton, the band chose the name Skullgang. It represents the idea that, despite our differences, every person is connected on a fundamental level, just as our skeletons form the framework for our bodies. This concept serves as a driving force behind Skullgang’s music and their desire to create unity and connection through their art.
